Life Settlement Index Recap - September, 2010 Data

The Amrita Life Settlement Index’s September data was released on Oct. 5th at 10:00 AM EST. The results showed a continued strengthening in life settlement demand with a robust gain of 15.7% from the previous month. The 77.5 point increase to 570.3 was based on generally strong buying activity among participating life settlement providers.

The index was boosted by the resumption of buying by previously dormant providers. In addition, survey respondents noted an increase in closing activity and isolated expansion of buying parameters.

The overall bullish sentiment was somewhat tempered as all respondents reported an increase in case submissions and policies available for purchase. The increase in supply was exemplified by a small number of providers that increased their target internal rates of return.

Looking forward, respondents were mixed on the outlook for next month’s demand. However, it is evident that the life settlement market has begun to show a measured recovery in the third quarter of 2010 as new capital has been deployed.
